Riley is 6 months old. He had his well baby check-up and he's 27 inches long and 17.2 lbs which puts him in the 75th percentile for height and the 48th percentile for weight. His head measurement puts him in the 10th percentile. Caleb's head measurement was always very small also. I'll tell you what....I was glad to have babies with small heads at their births!!!! I don't think they look like they have small heads though....maybe I'm blinded by the fact that they're my babies and no matter what they are perfect. So you guys be my eyes...Do my babies look peculiar with small heads?
Moving on...
Riley's pediatrician is absolutely in love with Caleb. Every time we take Riley in, Dr. Malarie comments on Caleb and his behavior and his development. Well, this last time he commented on Caleb's speech. He suggested I have Caleb tested at his three year old check up. I guess at three, the school system steps in for speech therapy instead of the hospital. I'm a bit heartbroken about it. It's difficult to think about your baby having trouble in any area of development. Shawn and I have kinda worried about his speech in the last year, but in the recent months we've really been wanting to have Caleb tested. However, I don't think either of us wanted to totally admit that there was a problem....and there still might not be, but I'm thinking there is. I don't think that there is an issue of him understanding objects, but rather an oral dysfunction. He's very smart and loves to talk, but it's very difficult to understand him. Like for instance, he'll say "why" for "dry". We've always thought it was cute, but he's starting to get frustrated when we don't understand what he's trying to tell us and we get frustrated too. He'll go off and tell Riley what he's saying, like Riley is going to then interpret for us....

Riley looks healthy and happy, so that is very good. He looks looks smaller than Caleb did-well, maybe I didn't meet you until Caleb was older and more chunky. Still, very cute!!
Sorry to hear about Caleb and speech testing. That has to be really tough. It must be really hard to think of the prospect of therapy, but you are doing a good thing by not putting it off!!! The good thing is that if they catch any potential problems young, then you can get it taken care of before school. Otherwise by looking at all your posts, Caleb seems pretty smart!! Good luck and let us know how it goes:)
Love and miss you lots!!!
Okay last year three of the moms in my church started their child in speech therapy. One was 2 years old and the other 2 were 3 years old. I have to say one little boy went from making noise for answers to actually really clearly saying the words. Don't think Calab has a problem, there are people to give him one on one help. Which i think is awesome. This will really help him grow, so totally do speech therapy.
Both your kids are totally beautiful. As far as speech therapy don't let it worry you. Chris went through it and it helped her tremendously. When they tested her they said she was six months behind, and they got her caught up in no time.
I think their heads look totally normal and your boys are gorgeous! Better to have a small noggin than a big ole melon head (as my husband calls it).
I think their heads look just great! Soooo cute!
I hope the speech therapy is a good experience. My sister is dealing with the same situation with her little boy right now. Actually four of the six kids in my family had to go to speech therapy so I wouldn't be surprised if one of my kids needs some extra help too.
I totally miss you! I wish we could do "baby playdates" together--you know, the kind where we sit around and drink hot chocolate while the babies lay on a blanket.
Rachael, I notice I don't have to type in a "word verification" in order to leave a comment. Is that because of your negative experience with them?
Harrison had speech theray for 6 months when he was 2 it made a world of differnce he could express himself better. It is actually pretty common..... don't worry Caleb is a very smart little boy and it has nothing to do with that.... think of it as a tutor to get a "leg up" he will pick it up fast.
